Home Economics students in 7A and 7B recently had lunch at Linh Linh Vietnamese Restaurant in High Street, Preston. The restaurant is owned by the Huynh family, two of whose children were students at Banksia.
We started with dim sims and mini spring rolls, eaten with lettuce and Vietnamese mint, accompanied by sweet chilli and plum dipping sauces. Alvin's initial doubts were quickly dispelled.
Main courses consisted of shared platters of chicken and vegetables, beef in blackbean sauce, and sweet and sour fish, as well as vast amounts of steamed rice. Andrew handled the chopsticks with aplomb.
None of the students used chopsticks at home, but all were impressive in their perseverance.
After a very pleasant meal, the waiter allowed us to take the chopsticks home for further practice. On the way home we drove the bus into McDonald's drive-in to finish with 15 cones - still only 30 cents after all these years!
