UNBELIEVABLE!

by Fahima Abdirahim

I had to leave my country because of the war. The day the war started, was Sunday. I was at school and we had an examination. We heard a big sound and the tables were moving and everyone fell on the floor and everyone said, "What happened?"

The teacher went out and he said, "Everyone has to pack up, something is wrong."

Then all the students said, "We want to ring our parents."

I went out of the class to look for my brothers. When I found my brothers, we went out of the school and my parents were looking for us. On the way to our house we saw many people dead and my brothers started crying, because they were scared of the blood of the people and many bodies. My parents thought we had died, but when they came back they saw us and they were happy. My parents rang my other brothers because they were at other schools.

In the night the light went out and we could not see anything. In the morning mum wanted to go to the market but she could not drive her car because if you had a gun you can drive, but you could not have a gun. My brother said "let us go mum" and my mum said "but we can not walk" and he said "I will drive the car". They went to the market and the market was closed. When they came back they had not bought anything and they were walking.

My dad said, "What is wrong, where is the car?"

My mum said, "There were men and they had guns and they said 'get out the car or we will kill you' and we got out of the car and they took it."

We heard two of my uncles had died and the enemy stole all our property such as cars, houses, money everything we had. Even when we fled, we did not take anything from home. My sister was four months old at that time and she was crying. We went to another suburb where one of my uncles lived. My dad wanted to ring my other uncles and the telephone did not work - unbelievable!.

Some of my brothers were still missing and my uncle's wife. My mum went back to our house. Our house was destroyed.

We went to Kenya and some of my brothers travelled by ship and some of our relatives travelled by ship and the ship sank. Finally we found my brothers, but we could not find one of my relatives families because the ship sank and they all died.
