SPECIAL DELIVERY
by Justin Daniels
One day during the last school holidays, I was having a good sleep-in . It was my birthday. I was woken up by a loud knock at the door. When I opened the door, there was the postman. He asked me if my name was Justin Daniels. When I told him that that was me, he told me that he had a delivery for me, but he had no parcel in his hands. He pointed to his motorbike at the front gate. Sitting on the back of his bike was a big black and white dog. Round its middle it had a paper wrapping with my name and address on it. The postman said, "That's for you."
I couldn't believe it! Was I still asleep and dreaming? I went to the gate to have a closer look. The dog opened its mouth and there, on its tongue, was a postage stamp. Who could have sent me this? The dog jumped down and ran inside the house. He seemed to like me. The postman drove off and called out, "Happy Birthday!" I just went inside.
Just as I closed the door, the phone rang. It was my Grandmother and she asked me if I'd got a delivery. So she was the one!! She told me that the postman was her friend's son, and he had done her a favour and delivered my birthday present.
My dog and I are the best of friends and I've called him 'A.P.' which is short for Australia Post. The postman hopes that my Grandmother doesn't send me an elephant next year....so do I!
