SYMBOLICALLY FORGOTTEN

by Michael Richey

I guess you don't remember!

I am the profound unsung hero of your childhood memories.

I was first given to you on the day you entered this world.

We shared a bond together that could never be equalled.

You gave me the gift of life and character. In return I gave

you security, closeness, during the isolated nights and days

when mother was not there.

As time and age progressed,

I became an undesirable habit in society's eyes.

We were forced to part. Left to be forgotten.

My brilliant colours of blue, red and yellow,

have now lost their colourful vibrance.

The white paint of my face has taken a brown tinge,

but still my starry eyes shine and my cheeks blush red.

My cheerful smile, an expression of the childhood innocence,

we shared in an unknown world to us.

It makes me feel bright to know.

I will always remain to you, the toy clown that is the essence of,

a happy childhood's memories.

I wait for the time you uncover me from the cardboard box in storage,

and we can reminisce about the time that was.....
