Banksia Secondary College has become the number one choice for overseas students living in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Close to La Trobe University and RMIT Bundoora, it is also within easy travelling distance of the University of Melbourne. By the way, Melbourne was recently voted "the world's most liveable city" for the second time!

Our commitment to overseas students has grown enormously. From a single Indonesian student two years ago, we now have 60 students from China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Vietnam. We have also had students from Brazil and Germany who studied here for one semester. Recently we have had three-week study tours for groups from China and Thailand, as well as two-week immersion programs for students from Japan. We have hosted three visits by Korean teachers and this year we are hosting a Japanese intern.

Students live with Australian families in a homestay, or in nearby hostels. We believe homestay is the best option, as the student is encouraged to communicate in English around the dinner table. As well, students are taken into the family as one of their own children. The current cost of homestay is $A200 per week.

On arriving at Banksia, students begin a 20-week intensive English course in the English Language Centre, then join mainstream classes in the College. The Centre also teaches English to overseas students from neighbouring schools.

The College Prospectus for overseas students gives information on the College and how to go about applying. This includes fees and where to obtain an application form.
