I was very angry and told my friends. They told me to escape from my dad so I decided to go with them. I put my clothes through the window and ran as fast as I could so that my father would not see me. While we were standing on the left side of the main road we saw a car coming. We stopped the car and asked the driver to give us a lift but he did not allow us into his car because we were too many. While we were still asking him for a lift, a mini-bus came along so we went on it. It drove us to the city. When we reached the city we asked the driver to stop. The bus driver indicated to the left side but stopped on the right side of the road. Most of the drivers don't follow the traffic rules in Kenya.
When we got out a police car with a siren was in front of us and a policeman got out and pointed a gun at us. He asked us for some ID. They drove us to the police station. Fortunately one of the police constables tried to get us released, but the others didn't agree with him because the police always expected money to release people. We gave them money because we were frightened. In Kenya once you go to jail you might never be released. After they got their money, they released us with a warning not to go to the city but we never took any notice, we went to the city anyway.
Before we arrived in the city we saw many people on the road, but we ignored them. We went to the shops to buy some things before we went to the cinema because once we were in to the cinema we couldn't get out till the film finished.
When we got near the cinema we saw many people gathered together and some of them were chasing each other with knives. As we came closer we could smell blood but we thought an accident had occurred. However the truth was a Kikuyu clansman had been killed by the Masai during tribal fighting. After a few minutes while we were there a police car and military trucks full of soldiers arrived. They didn't tell people to leave the place they just fired into the air. Some of them fired at people who were chasing each other with knives and many were killed while they were calling for help.
Of those of us who came to the city together, only two of us were left. We never thought our friends would leave us in such a risky place. I asked my friend where the others had gone but he never answered me because he was shocked. I looked around me, no one was there except the two of us. We decided to follow our friends to where they had gone.
Before we reached our home we saw many people coming toward us. We thought they were those that had run from the skirmish but it was the Masai warriors who had fought with the Kikuyu, carrying poisonous arrows.
It was frightening for us because we knew this tribe always killed people. They are the most feared people in Kenya. They beat us up badly and no one helped us because it seemed everyone was out of town. After they left us we took ourselves to the hospital but couldn't walk well especially my friend who was bleeding too much. It was an unforgettable day for me.
