MY ENDLESS LOVE

by Sally Cope

I know this is going to sound a little sentimental, but this is the only way I could express my feelings to you.

Everytime you walk past, my heart goes on fire and I get a lump in my throat. I try to say 'hello', but the words just don't come out. I feel a cold shiver down my spine, not knowing what to do, but just stare and feel depressed.

I could imagine just you and me together, under the shining stars, the wind blowing through your beautiful hair. I've always wanted a guy like you, no other guy would do. In the morning, I always wake up thinking of you. The way you walk the way you talk, just sweeps me off my feet. My love for you gets stronger everyday. I could never fall in love with another guy.

I hope you feel the same way as I feel for you.

Yours eternally ....Jade.

I folded the letter neatly and slipped it in my pocket. I wasn't sure if this was a good idea, but then again, I have to take my chances.

"Hey Jade, have you given it to him yet?"
"No. Not yet."
"Good luck."
"Thanks. I'll be needing it."
I looked up and there he was. Oh no! I don't think I can do this.....but I have to. But how am I going to face......? All these 'but what if.....' questions, kept on popping in and out of my head. I wasn't making it any easier for myself.

I started walking up to him. My heart was beating harder and faster each step I took, as if it was going to pop right out. I took a big breath of air.

"Hi Michael," I could feel my face burning, like flames.
"Oh. Hi Jade. How are you?"
"Oh....um....I'm fine." I couldn't believe that I was talking to him.
"How are you?" I asked.
"O.K."
"Look....um....I have to go now. Maybe I'll see you some other time."
"Yeah, sure, maybe you will."
After I had walked off, I felt so stupid and angry for not giving him the letter. I just couldn't do it!

The bell had gone for hometime. I started walking home, slowly, feeling depressed. I had made up my mind. As soon as I got home, I put my bag down and went straight up to my room and thought for a while. I started dialling Michael's number. It was ringing.

"Hello?" a voice answered. It was him.
"Um.......Michael?"
"Yeah?"
"Hi, it's.......um.....it's Jade."
"Hi Jade. Did you want something?"
"Yeah. I was wondering if you could meet me at the lake near school?"
"Now?"
"Yeah. If that's okay."
"Sure."
"O.K. See you there in five minutes. Bye."
"Bye."

He hung up. I felt a little relieved. I changed from my uniform to my casual clothes. I took the house keys and wrote a little note for my parents. (Mum, dad - I'll be home soon, I've gone for a walk.)

I put the note on the fridge and left. I got closer to the lake and there he was, sitting down on a bench. As he saw me, he stood up with a smile and waved.

"Hi," he said when I got closer.
"I guess you're wondering why I called you here?"
"You bet I am. Jade....are you hiding something from me?" "Um, I've been wanting to tell you this for a long time, but I never had the chance." I turned towards the lake and tried to figure a way to tell him. I turned back to him.
"Michael?" I walked up close to him, our eyes met......
"I love you!"...... I came closer to his face and we kissed.
"Jade?" he hesitated "I can't...."
"Why?"
"I just can't," Michael started walking away from me.
"But Michael wait...." It was too late. Michael had disappeared into the distance.

I felt so depressed. It was like the end of the world. But why? I started walking home slowly. I got home and went straight to my room. I took the letter out and read it over and over again.

That night I couldn't sleep. I tried to keep him off my mind, but I just couldn't help myself. It was morning. I slowly got ready for school. I really didn't want to go. I guess I had to face the facts in life and live with it. I got to school, the bell had gone. I quickly took my books out and entered the class. Every head in the room turned in my direction. I just walked in and took a seat.

The day had past hastily. It was already hometime. "Jade," a voice came from behind. I turned around. When I saw Michael I kept on walking. "Jade, please wait. I'm really sorry about yesterday. Please try to understand!" I stopped walking.

"I don't understand. First you run off on me and now you expect me to understand you?"
"No, no you don't understand."
"O.K. then explain to me."
"We can't talk here. Let's go to the lake."
We both walked in silence. I was a little calmer. "Look Jade, I'm really sorry about yesterday. It's just that I wasn't ready for you. I needed time to think about it, I mean, it hit me all at once."

Hearing this, I was surprised. I walked closer to him.

"I love you Michael."
"I love you Jade."
